Brothers: A Somewhat True Memoir

Brothers has story after story of growing up on a tobacco farm in North Carolina. From the humorous, mayhem including pranks among brothers, to the serious, the fighting and wounds in war. The brothers were guided by a strong-willed Mom who pushed education and insisted they attend school whether or not there was farm work. Their Dad, on the other hand, was more laid back, but taught them generosity of spirit and compassion for their neighbors. If the Autry Family had food and a place to sleep, the neighbors did. Everyone was welcome. The five brothers were confined to a life of narrow existence during childhood, but then got sucked up into the military and war and life changes. They moved from a prism to the big city lights of Paree and they were never the same again. A delightful, transforming book built around wonderment. You ll want to read it. This book is a tribute to the brothers' parents, their upbringing, and to their community. They developed such a great love of country and believe that their service in the military forever changed them and in a sense made Brothers possible.
