Japan: A Self-Portrait

The exhibition and book Japan: A Self-Portrait was planned by Cornell Capa, the original Executive Director of the International Center of Photography, as a part of the project JAPAN TODAY. The exhibition featured 19 photographers focusing on post-war Japan. The Japanese Committee, organized by Shoji Yamagishi, Hiroshi Hamaya, Jun Miki, Shomei Tomatsu, Ikko Narahara, and Ryoji Akiyama, nominated the Japanese photographers with final selections made by the Chairman of Japanese Committee, Shoji Yamagishi.
