The Kensington Rune-Stone: Authentic and Important : A Critical Edition (Edward Sapir Monograph Series in Language, Culture & Congnition , Vol 19)
Description:
Professor Hall is Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at Cornell University. Here he recapitulates his earlier findings (1982) and incorporates the most-recent discoveries in mediaeval Scandinavian documents, all of which afford further proof of the authenticity of the Kensington text. He also places the inscription in the broader context of North American and Scandinavian history, citing King Valdemar IV's conquest of Gothland in 2361 and his defeat of the Hanseatic fleet at Helsingborg in 1362 as possible reasons for a Scandinavian voyage of exploration and settlement to the west of Vinland, as suggested by the text of the tune-stone.
