The Worthy Ones

Fiction. African American Studies. Set in Louisiana, THE WORTHY ONES portrays several generations of the Pettaway and Johnson families. The story revolves around four lovers who form two triangles. It is also an epic about a generation of African Americans in the South and why thousands of them participated in one of the largest immigrations in American history, when they journeyed to California to work in the war industries during World War II. Charlie Louis Russell, Jr., was born in Monroe, Louisiana on March 10, 1932. Among his many accomplishments, Charlie Russell wrote the film script for Five and received the 1972 N.A.A.C.P. Image Award for best film script.
