1012 Monastery Road A Spiritual Journey
Description:
1012 Monastery Road is the street address of St. Benedict’s Monastery in Snowmass, Colorado. It is home to a group of Trappist monks, among whose number have been Thomas Keating, the late Theophane Boyd, and William Meninger.
Meninger—who with Keating and Basil Pennington is one of the leading lights of the contemplative prayer movement—describes the foundation of the monastery in 1956 and its difficult and tenuous early days, as the monastery was being built high in the Rocky Mountains. Meninger explores the meaning of community as well as the challenges and gifts that arise from the contemplative life. It is a life dedicated to opening one’s heart and allowing Christ to enter that "inner room," the place where we are called upon to respond to God.
