Letter in a Bottle

In 1945, a sixteen-year-old English schoolboy and a fifteen-year-old North Carolina girl began a correspondence that would span over forty years. Through these letters, Goolsby and Campbell reveal personal hopes and disappointments, witness history, and develop a highly literate and supportive friendship:

"And now, I don't think of you as a pen-friend, but as Elaine, a girl on the other side of the world who knows more about me than any person in-between -- a friend who doesn't kick too hard when letters go unanswered, and who has troubles."
