A reference book devoted exclusively to identifying the signatures and monograms of American artists. Here are some 8,000 signature specimens for 3,400 American painters, printmakers, illustrators, and sculptors who were active from the colonial period up to the mid-twentieth century. The dictionary's primary index contains all signatures and monograms in alphabetical order according to artist, followed by an index to artists' initials and monograms, and four indexes according to visual shapes of the monograms.
