Cinders & Smoke: A Mile by Mile Guide for the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Trip

This mile by mile guide... is keyed to mileposts placed along the east side of the track (Right side of train on northbound trip to Silverton.) These markers are steel posts about 5 feet high and 6 inches wide that are from 10 to 20 feet east of the track. Numbers on the posts, visible in both directions, indicate the distance by rail from Denver, via Pueblo, where the D&RG started. When the train travels 15mph, it passes a milepost every 4 minutes. --- from back cover
