This is an account of life in Sumatra in eastern Montana from 1914-24. It is the story of Dr. J. E. Midgett, town doctor, and his son Kent, who grew up there. It is also the rise of Sumatra, created by the Milwaukee Railroad, and its disappearance with the decline of rainfall. The story is updated to the 1990s by the author's son, Douglas Midgett.
