This is a unique view of an American businessman who surmounted the incredible problems of running a railroad, and keeping it running, even in the midst of terrifying odds. Bridges were burned, engines dynamited, trains destroyed. Yet Roy Hoard was able to keep communications open with all sides of the conflicts--a remarkable feat. One of his fortes included handling the irascible Pancho Villa who said of him, "I would have hung him to the nearest telephone pole but he would never stop talking." In his later years, he played an active role in the civic, economic and political leadership of El Paso, Texas.
