Assessment & Evaluation in Whole Language Programs

The whole language movement is in a very real way at a crossroads. While many educators at every level have embraced the basic tenets of whole language and support classroom instruction that is child-centered, meaning-focused, and holistic, the critics and traditional assessment and evaluation in the coming years will either confirm whole language or kill it. This book attempts to answer many of the critical questions being asked about the role of whole language in our schools.
