Description:
Wonderful collection of sepia-toned photographs showing the Newfoundland Railway (both before and after the CN takeover). There are scenes from every era, including the construction gangs and the first locomotive, steam and diesels in action, stations and trackside structures, employees, wrecks and derailments, branch lines, World War II, the coming of the automobiles and finally, the lifting of the track. The book also has a section on the coastal steamers run by the Reid Newfoundland Company (and then CN) that linked Newfoundland to the outside world. The author worked for the railroad for 33 years so the photo captions are intelligent and informative. 133 pages.
