*****Towards the end of the last century [19TH] western Canada's great need for settlers coincided with the social and political turmoil in eastern Europe. Trainloads of immigrants arrived in Winnipeg almost daily, seeking Land, freedom and free education. Joseph Wilder was one of them. In this collection of reminiscences the author depicts his early years in Romania, and his experiences as a young newsboy in downtown Winnipeg in 1904 - 1911.
