Focus on Decimals, Book 1, is a carefully sequenced book of student activities for mastering the meaning of decimals and how to compare, add and subtract them. Decimals are presented as an extension of the number system. Congruent regions introduce tenths, then hundredths, and finally thousandths. The same types of diagrams enables students to compare decimals, and make the generalizations of rules meaningful. Many activities are included in the form of puzzles and patterns. Pictures are used to develop the two operations of addition and subtraction. Once the technique for addition and subtraction are established, money is presented to give meaning to operating with hundredths. This booklet was written so that the student can work on his own with a minimum of teacher assistance. Quizzes and review pages are included. Designed for use in grades five to nine.
