Musical Bridges: Intergenerational Music Programs

This unique resource was developed from the author's experiences of successfully combining preschool children and retirement and nursing home residents through music and music-based activities. Musical Bridges uses familiar songs and rhythms and presents music-based programs and themes. Traditional music which spans generations has been used as well as popular children's songs. Both the music and the activities are presented for older adults and 3- to 4-year-olds with special adaptations for 2-year-olds and the material is organized so that anyone working with these populations may implement the programs: activity directors, music therapists, day care teachers, music specialists and recreational directors. Every program allows for positive interactions, and the experiences with these programs will bring joy to everyone as Musical Bridges are created between the generations.
