The nonprofit research organization follows up on Cutting chemical wastes, published in 1985, which defined, through plant case studies, the specific economic and environmental benefits of industrial source reduction preventing the generation of wastes in the first place rather than cleaning them up after they have been created. This new report looks again at the 29 organic chemical manufacturing plants profiled in the original study and analyzes the results of 181 source reduction initiatives many that are simple, low-cost, and do-able in the tens of thousands of such facilities worldwide.
