The Cover Story Index, 1960-1991 : An Independent Index to the Cover Stories of Newsweek, Time and U.S. News & World Report
Description:
From Library Journal\nThis "new approach to reference materials" is basically a subject index to Newsweek, Time, and U.S. News & World Report cover stories from 1960 to 1989. Why 1960? "Many libraries have microforms of magazines that go that far back; the country seemed to take a different direction after 1960; and . . . there's a new interest by today's students about that time period." (There are no listings for U.S. News until 1974, when the magazine actually began to offer a cover story.) A story chronology is included along with a subject heading index. This is a narrowly focused source that may be useful in high school or public libraries. Since many top news stories didn't make the covers (Woodstock, Charles Manson, etc.), those looking for general news articles, including covers, will be better served by The Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature .
