His production of Volume 1 of The Book of American Trade Marks sparked increased interest for "creative compilations" which served as references for graphic designers.

He originally self-published (under the name Century Communications, Unlimited) the first 8 books. Afterwards, his books were published by Art Direction Book Co. of New York City from 1977-2006; and 1996 through 2008 they were published by HarperCollins.
