Blessed Elder Philotheos Zervakos (1884-1980) stands out among other recently reposed Orthodox Christian elders who are regarded by many as saints. He had served for fifty years as Abbot of the celebrated Monastery of Longovarda on the island of Paros, and for many years was Greece's foremost Confessor and Spiritual Guide. He built churches, monasteries and schools, and wrote many edifying books and thousands of letters of counsel to his spiritual children.
