North Central Worcester County, Massachusetts, lies about 50 miles west of Boston and is bordered by metropolitan Worcester to the south and southern New Hampshire to the north. The political entities of this area are six communities known as Greater Gardner. Settled in the early 1700s, the region's present combined population is about 40,000.
