Stone Walls and Sugar Maples: An Ecology for Northeasterners

Written from a northeastern perspective, the authors combine developments in ecology, natural history, conservation, and outdoor recreation to achieve a unique synthesis. Stone Walls and Sugar Maples argues that since we cannot return to a pre-colonial "paradise," we must adjust to what has always been a dynamic environment. It seeks to answer three essential questions: 1. What did the first Europeans find? 2. What forces created this landscape? 3. How have our activities changed it?
