The Old Oligarch (LACTOR)

A translation, with introduction and bibliography, of Pseudo-Xenophon's Constitution of the Athenians, which combines a cynical sketch of many features of Periclean Athens with an almost generous admission that, from the point of view of the masses, the democratic system is well designed and proof against subversion.
