These two western N.C.. Counties are important migration paths for early settlers moving into Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina. Haywood County was formed 105 from Buncombe. Jackson County was formed in 1853 from and was created from the middle portions of both Haywood on the east and Macon County on the west. At one time Jackson county reached from Tennessee border south to the South Carolina state line.
