A Weft of Memory: A Greek Mother's Recollection of Folk Songs and Other Poems

Vasiliki Scotes was born in a small village in Epirus, Greece, but lived most of her long life in Harrisburg, PA. Nearing the age of 100 she spent the last few years dictating to her son, Ambassador Thomas Scotes, as many songs as she could remember from her childhood in Theodoriana.This is a bilingual edition, with all the songs and poems transcribed in Greek and translated into English by Tom Scotes, who includes stories and notes about village feasts and customs, information about when and under what circumstances the songs were sung, how they were danced, and general comments about the cultural and historical context of a village, part of some of the very ancient mountain communities of southern Europe.
