Nuclear Energy Safety Challenges In The Former Soviet Union (Csis Panel Report)

Fifteen nuclear reactors of the type that exploded at Chernobyl in April 1986 are still operating in Russia, Ukraine, and Lithuania. The West, concerned about safety of operations, wants these reactors shut down, but the host nations refuse. The electricity these reactors supply is much too important for their economies, so the argument goes.
