Redigging the Wells
Description:
In Redigging the Wells, Monroe Hawley probes the evils of a badly divided religious world and digs deeply into the idea of restoring the New Testament church.
A brief history of the restoration movement is included to provide background for the study of being "Christians only." Thomas and Alexander Campbell and Barton W. Stone fill these pages of restoration history. And their famous documents, The Last Will and Testament of the Springfield Presbytery and Declaration and Address, are reviewed. Smaller groups are also traced to the restoration movement.
Other interesting topics include "Are 'We' a Denomination?" "Your Speech Betrays You," "The Implications of Baptism," "Free Churches in Christ," "Communicating the Message" and "Just Christians." A graduate of Harding College and Washington University in St. Louis, Monroe E. Hawley has preached for several churches in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. Currently he preaches at Southside Church of Christ in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Hawley is well-known for his Bible Correspondence courses. Over half a million of his lessons are distributed annually to churches throughout the world and have been translated into about 10 foreign languages.
Born and raised in Michigan, Hawley married Julia Tranum of Sumner, Mississippi in the summer of 1945. They now have four children, Wayne, Dale, Glynda and Glenn.
