J.D. Thomas received the B.A. degree in Bible and Greek from Abilene Christian University, the M.A. in Church History from Southern Methodist University, and the Ph.D. from the Humanities Division of the University of Chicago with a major in New Testament and Early Christian Literature.

He has been listed in Outstanding Educators of America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in Religion, and in the 38th Edition of Who's Who in America.

He has served as an Elder in the University Church of Christ in Abilene and has written numerous books and articles in the field of religion. He has spoken in thirty countries of the world.
