The Najdorf Variation of the Sicilian Defence

This opening book was first published in 1976. Fairly comprehensive at a hefty 388 pages. At the time it was perhaps the best available go to book for this opening. It was only when Nunn's "Complete Najdorf" in two volumes was published that this book was superseded with updated research on the latest lines. So what is the value today for this book? This book is excellent for learning the MAIN IDEAS behind the strategies for each line - the stuff that has not really changed in 40 years and is still valid today - i.e. where you want to position the pieces and what the goals/objectives are. Secondly, the authors, which include some first rate and legendary Grandmasters such as Spassky, Geller and Gligoric, take the time to walk you through the thought process move by move for each of the illustrative games - those game analyses and annotations from these famous GMs alone would make this book a worthwhile study.
