Articulated Locomotives
Description:
Originally published in 1930 (and reprinted here by Kalmbach in 1970), this encyclopedic volume contains just about everything one could possible wish to know about articulated locomotives. The book is divided into four main sections (articulated locomotives, semi-articulated, temporally articulated or with auxiliary engines, and those that use the tender's weight for propulsion), with detailed further differentiation explaining each particular kind of engine. (For example, there are 47 different engines described in the Articulated section, 55 in the Semi-Articulated section, etc.) There are numerous charts providing dimensions for each type. Illustrated throughout with detailed schematic diagrams, black and white photos, prints, and drawings. Includes lists of articulated systems, inventors, railways that have used them, manufacturers and principal dimensions. With a new introduction and epilogue by noted railroad writer Robert A. Le Massena. 632 pages.
