Canadian Government Paper Money, 23rd Edition

Weak market conditions continue to erode the valuations of many forms of government-issued Canadian paper money. The 1954 modified issues have suffered the sharpest losses, although most of the rarest replacement prefixes have been immune, selling at steady prices. One particular 1954 test note has recorded a price increase of almost 130%, based on a recent bona-fide sale. A considerable portion of insert replacement notes are now trading a bit lower although they retain an enthusiastic collector base. In most other categories some prices are up and some are down within any specific issue, with most of the fluctuations fairly moderate in either direction. Valuations for some of the more spectacular error notes have increased, particularly those which seem to be harder to find than once thought. Among special number notes, single digit radar notes remain in strong demand, while modern three and four digit radars continue to lose traction. Some notes which rarely appear on the market have recently been involved in transactions, prompting substantial catch-up increases, notably Army Bills and Bank Legals. Changes made for the 23rd Edition include elimination of pricing for notes - and grades - which, to the best of our knowledge, are unavailable to the collecting public. Many new tips for collectors have been added for this edition, and note census information has been updated to provide the latest population figures. Several very rare Dominion note proofs and specimens have been listed for the first time in this edition. Listings for the 1917 Princess Patricia Dominion notes have been expanded in detail, in response to the needs of collectors who wish to acquire these lovely notes by variety and prefix. The former table of printing date changeover numbers for Journey notes has been integrated with the checklist of prefixes to offer fuller information in a more convenient format. New prefixes issued since the last edition have been brought up to date, and the latest available insert replacement note ranges have been added.
