Needlework Classics makes available to the sewer and non-sewer alike, a volume of beautiful heirloom designs suitable for a number of needlework techniques. The designs, over 140 in all dating from 1830 to 1930, were selected from The Butterick Archives, a rich source of needle-work heritage. The desing selections were based o artistic and historic merit and suitability for adaptation to clothing, either home-sewn or ready-made. Almost all the designs can be worked in at least one additional technique beyond the one originally intended. For example, a cross-stitch sampler can become a needlepoint pattern and a geometric line design once intended for braiding is just as easily used for a quilting pattern.
