Association Law Update: 2009 Supplement to the Association Law Handbook, 4th Edition
Description:
In the two years after the Association Law Handbook, 4th edition, was published, several of the laws, regulations, and decisions that govern trade associations, professional societies, and philanthropic and other nonprofit organizations changed. Notable among these changes were new disclosure and governance requirements from the Internal Revenue Service, changes in lobbying reporting requirements, and a major antitrust case that altered Federal Trade Commission regulations. These events and other, less dramatic developments prompted the publication of this Association Law Update as a supplement to the Association Law Handbook, 4th edition. This supplement aims to ensure that association executives have the most up-to-date information needed to manage their organizations without running into legal trouble.
Five new chapters address topics such as charitable solicitation, professional certification, joint ventures with businesses, and group tax exemption. In addition, author Jerald Jacobs has updated eight chapters on topics such as contracts with hotels and convention centers, political action committees, gifts to congress, lobbying, discussions at meetings, antitrust compliance, for-profit subsidiaries, and IRS forms and procedures. Also included are five new sample documents and updates to the Records Retention Policy document provided the Association Law Handbook, 4th edition.
