This debate-style reader is a textbook, designed to introduce students to controversies in crime and criminology. Divided into four Parts - Crime: Definitions, and Causes; Measuring Crime; Social Control and The Criminal Justice System; and Future Trends - the parts each contain several pro and con debates. The purpose of each is the development of critical thinking skills. Students read these debates, analyse the opposing viewpoints and draw their own conclusions. The debates represent arguments of leading criminologists, sociologists, and social commentators.
