Woodwork is a subject with many branches, each of which calls for a book in itself if it is to be dealt with adequately. Many people however, need a general book which includes information on all the branches of woodwork which the home craftsman is likely to tackle. So this book was written. It does not pretend to cover any particular subject as fully as a book which specializes in that branch, but it does give all basic information, and in this sense it should be the best all-around book for the comparative beginner in the subject. More people are doing woodwork as a hobby today than at any other period and it is one of the most heartening signs of this age when the temptation to accept things ready-made is almost irresistible.
