Practical Upholstery
Description:
The chief object of the upholsterer's craft is to provide pieces of furniture comfortable to sit on and pleasant to look upon. It takes time and patience to achieve this object. Methods and designs are constantly changing and the good craftsman is always learning. During the author's early days at the bench it was difficult to acquire sound knowledge and there were few books dealing with the subject. It is hoped, therefore, that this volume will help both those in the trade as well as home craftsmen to gain an insight into the craft. As in all the old handicraft trades, machinery and pre-fabrication are playing their part. This is modern industrial progress which has its counterpart in almost every trade and profession. Some of the materials and components that are readily at hand in a factory or workshop are not always available to the worker at home. Consequently alternative suggestions and methods are given.
