America-America Letters: A Norwegian-American Family Correspondence

"American letters" refers to letters written by immigrants to America to those back home. "Norway letters" refers to letters written by those back home to the immigrants in the U.S. This book contains "America-America letters," correspondence between the immigrant members of a particular family--the Aaker family, descendants of Knud Saavesen Aaker and his wife Mari Larsdatter Hægtvedt, who emigrated from Norway in 1894. These letters, annotated by Østgård, reflect the confidentiality of personal correspondence and provide a true picture of the experiences, feelings, and hardships of the individual family members as they adjusted to living in American society.
