History of the Church is an edited compilation of the writings of Joseph Smith and others. The time period covered in this sixth volume of the History of the Church is less than one year; from September 1, 1843 through June 29, 1844. Events within this period are covered in great detail. In this volume we see the Prophet Joseph Smith's struggles with foes inside and outside the church. The combination of political and sectarian enemies determined to kill him, destroy Nauvoo and expel the Saints from Illinois. The volume concludes with the martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum Smith in Carthage Jail.
