During the years that this volume was taking shape, information on the plants continuously accumulated. Friends and colleagues were quick to point to new observations omissions, errors and necessary changes. The editors hope that condensing and distilling the amount and the practical application of this storehouse of data was the challenge and is the accomplishment of this new book. The reader will, no doubt, find some special plant missing or some piece of knowledge short of the mark but the editors believe that the book is now the most comprehensive and practical survey available on the subject matter.
