Into the Light: The Projected Image in American Art, 1964-1977

Iles was the curator for the exhibition at the Whitney in 2001-2002 summarized in this catalogue, though as the works of art were based on projected images, the good-quality color and b&w plates can only partly convey them. The volume provides a useful addition to the subject, with essays on the field by Iles and Thomas Zummer (a curator, he teaches critical studies at New York U.), and a survey of the art and artists represented in the exhibition, including Vito Acconci, Simone Forti, Dennis Oppenheim, Michael Snow, and Joan Jonas.
