Living With Mount St. Helens: Human Adjustment to Volcano Hazards

A decade has passed since the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in the spring of 1980, and the people living close to the volcano are still learning to cope with its ever-present danger. Using a sociological approach, "Living with Mt. St. Helens" examines how the residents of Toutle and Lexington, Washington, responded to the catastrophe. Employing statistical surveys, personal interviews, and a review of hazard management literature, Perry and Lindell analyze and interpret the ways residents reacted during and after the eruption.
