Selected Poems of Francis Jammes (English and French Edition)
Description:
Francis Jammes, a pastoral poet, wrote of simple everyday things. His was "a poetry of white roses," often intensely romantic and dealing with an imaginary life far more satisfying than the unfulfilled life Jammes led. Twice refused admission to the French Academy, Jammes' work was nonetheless admired by a variety of his contemporaries including Gide, Claudel, Mallarme and Remy de Gourmont. Since his death he has become recognized as one of the foremost poets of his time. Kenneth Rexroth has called him one of the greatest unknown influences on twentieth-century American poetry.
