Paul's Letters to the Thessalonians
Description:
The apostle Paul, accompanied by Silas, Timothy, and Luke, visited the Macedonian port of Thessalonica during his second missionary journey. Although their evangelistic work resulted in the conversion of some Jews, most of the new believers were Gentiles and members of the working class. Before a riot forced Paul and his companions to move on to Berea, they were able to provide this group of Christians with a significant amount of doctrinal teaching. Paul, concerned about this young testimony, soon sent Timothy back to check on its progress. Timothy was able to bring Paul a wonderful report, along with a number of questions that he was apparently unable to address adequately himself. The apostle responded to the need for additional instruction with his two letters to the Thessalonian Christians, quite possibly his First Epistles. This verse-by-verse commentary not only unfolds the teachings of these Epistles in a wonderfully clear way, but also shows how the lessons so vital to our Thessalonians brethren are equally important and practical for us today.
