Supreme Court practice: For practice in the Supreme Court of the United States
Description:
This eighth edition of a reference first published in 1950 (and updated at four-to-eight year intervals since then) is dedicated to the memory of Robert L. Stern, one of the original two co-authors, who died in January 2000. Three co-authors have carried on in revising what Stern envisioned as a comprehensive, user-friendly guide to everything a lawyer needs to know in handling a case in the Supreme Court. Coverage includes the Supreme Court's history and organizational framework, and the specifics of jurisdiction and procedure. New information includes practical suggestions for preparing merits briefs and for presenting effective oral arguments, and a summary of the Court's new web site. Four appendices comprise about one-quarter of the book, presenting documents which are also available at the Court's website but are nevertheless useful in hard copy. They spell out the rules of the Supreme Court and provide casehandling guides, guidance for counsel in cases to be argued, and forms. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
