The Early History of Transportation in Oregon
Description:
In the summer of 1899, Henry Villard celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of his arrival in Oregon by revisiting the Willamette Valley and the sites of his numerous transportation projects. During that visit, his achievements in the creation and management of those railroad and navigation enterprises received widespread public appreciation. This prompted Villard to write a formal record of his experiences as his final contribution to the state and people of Oregon. Henry Villard passed away on November 12, 1900.At his request, the publication of this manuscript was delayed for many years. It first appeared as a serial in the Portland Oregonian in 1926, and was reprinted as part of the University of Oregon Monographs series in 1944.
