Tales From the Leather Nun
Description:
Tales From the Leather Nun is something of a cult classic in the world of underground comix. Released in 1973, it's a sex-and-drugs assault on anything sacred, and an extremely odd artifact of the counterculture.
The title character appears naked throughout the title, with the exception of her nun's habit and what appears to be macramé jewelry. There's much angst about "negative energy" and "sinful natures," but in the end, the leather nun appears as a fantasy figure to transport the hero off to a realm of sexual salvation. The rest of the anthology includes religion-inspired stories from Robert Crumb, Spain, Jaxon, and other comix artists. Most mix sex and angst along with heavy doses of religious imagery in a way which is undeniably profane, but that probably says much more about the artists than it does about religion.
