The central character, Rabbit, learns from his grandfather and other adults the things he need to know so that he can, in time, become a responsible adult in the Pueblo. The author, Lawrence Jonathan Vallo of Jemez and Acoma Pueblos in New Mexico, has also illustrated his tales with black and white drawings. Mr. Vallo graduated from the University of Albuquerque. During World War II he served in Europe with valor and received a number of citations including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
