Tales of the Scottish Highlands

The Highlands of Scotland are rich in folk-tales and Gerald Warner has collected and re-told over 60 of these stories, many of them never previously printed. This is history as it has been preserved in the memories of ordinary people - great events that have fundamentally changed the life of the Scottish nation, local catastrophes, clan feuds, ghostly visitations - all told and re-told around the peat fires in lonely crofts. Now the tradition is almost of the past, and in collecting and editing an important part of the remaining stories Gerald Warner has helped to preserve a rich oral inheritance. School-children of the Highlands have contributed line drawings.
