History of Southern Africa

This text has been used in classes in places as far apart as Norway, Australia and the United States, as well as in South Africa itself. Professor Omer-Cooper has incorporated recent advances in scholarship: the early history, settlement and relationships of the Khoisan and Bantu-speaking peoples; the causation and course of the 19th-century Mfecane (which was originally detailed in the author's own book The Zulu Aftermath; the recent history of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland and newly independent Namibia; the final phase of apartheid from 1986 to 1990; and the negotiations to establish a transitional regime.
