Glossary of Art, Architecture and Design Since 1945

The rapid turnover of art movements and styles since 1945 has been accompanied by a matching growth in the number of terms, or labels, attempting to encompass new developments. Arranged in alphabetical order, this glossary provides the reader with definitions of the great variety of art movements, groups and styles which have evolved internationally since the World War II. All terms included are derived from the published literature on art, and concentration is upon the main conceptual and theoretical notions which are so often neglected by art dictionary compilers. Cross references and an index of artists, art groups and art concepts enable information to be easily traced. For this edition the majority of existing entries has been revised and updated, both in respect of the text and of the bibliographies at the foot of each entry which refer to books, exhibitions catalogues and journal articles. Over one hundred new terms are included on such topics as black art, post-modernism, feminist art, scratch video, neo-geo, etc. For the first time the glossary is fully illustrated.
