Over 160 advisory editors and contributors have helped to compile this work of reference which is illustrated throughout in colour with photographs, paintings, maps and diagrams. The subject-matter is arranged in 12 subject areas to facilitate rapid reference and extended reading. The volume includes a detailed index with over 11,000 references; an A-Z gazetteer of the countries of the world with 170 national maps and flags; colour-coded sections for immediate identification; and boxes at the end of each spread to guide the reader to related spreads.
